Homework 6

Movie review:

All Quiet on the Western Front was quite an educational and exiting read for myself. Reading reviews on the book really shows that everyone agrees this book is very well written. One particular description that stands out: 'The book conquers without persuading, it shakes you without exaggerating, a perfect work of art and at the same time truth that cannot be doubted' Stefan Sweig" (1) The author does a great job keeping the reader emotionally involved to the point of showing wars true ugly face.

The first read of the book has a strong and lasting effect on the reader, who says the second time through is dull in comparison because: "you can't lose your idealism twice. " (2) This review focuses on the change of thought about war throughout a lifetime. As there is no longer a ' "right side" or the "wrong side" of a war. I think of the winning and losing sides.'(2) After reading this book it is impossible to think about war as just because of any 'national' or 'cultural' cause, the cost of individuals is simply too great.
